Strategic Portfolio Member access or above is required to open the supply and demand overview.
The supply and demand overview compares demand against capacity across every initiative in the portfolio. It shows where more work is planned than there are people to do it, where there's spare capacity, which resources have capacity but no work (or work but no capacity), and lets requests be dealt with in one place.
A resource only appears here if it has some demand or capacity in the periods on screen. Each figure shows demand against capacity both as a percentage and as demand/capacity. By default the overview groups by Team → Skill → Person with the Allocation Status and Effort & Capacity lenses turned on, and it remembers the grouping, lenses, and figures for next time.
Switch between requested and allocated demand
If the resource workflow is turned on, a checkbox above the table controls which values feed the demand totals:
Show Requested - totals include Requested values on top of Soft and Hard Allocated, showing everything the portfolio is asking for. This is the default.
Hide Requested - totals include Soft and Hard Allocated values only, showing what's actually been committed. Requests still pending are left out.
Rejected values never count towards the totals in either mode, and only Soft and Hard Allocated resource ever uses up available time.
Group the overview
Open the grouping control above the table.
Choose the grouping needed, for example Team → Skill → Person, or Skill → Person.
Grouped rows add up the values from the rows underneath and show the total on the group, and any warnings from those rows are surfaced on the group too.
Use lenses
Allocation Status shows where each value has got to in the request workflow.
Effort & Capacity colours each cell by how full it is - the colour gets stronger as demand gets closer to using up all the available capacity - making pressure points easy to spot.
A legend explains the colours and status styling used in the table.
