Configure Rates

Overview

Configure rate cards in Kiplot to record what each resource costs. A rate is the monthly cost of a resource. A rate can be set at two levels. A rate set against a skill alone is a blended rate that applies to everyone with that skill β€” for example a single "Engineer" rate for every engineer. A rate set against a named person is specific to that individual, so a person can carry their own higher rate. A rate has a default value that applies to every month until a different value is entered from a chosen month onward.

Fields on a rate

Name

Description

Skill

The classified skill the rate applies to.

Person

When set, the rate is specific to that person.

Currency

The currency the rate is set in. Defaults to the portfolio's base currency and is fixed when the rate is created.

Default rate

The monthly rate that applies to every month until a value is entered for a specific month.

Monthly rate

The rate for an individual month.

Add a rate

  1. On the "Rate Card" tab of the configuration page, select "Add rate".

  2. Choose the skill the rate applies to.

  3. Optionally, choose a person to make the rate specific to that individual. Leave the person blank to set a blended rate for everyone with the skill.

  4. If more than one currency is enabled, choose the currency for the rate. The currency defaults to the base currency and cannot be changed after the rate is created.

  5. Enter the default rate.

  6. Save the rate. The new rate appears on the rate card as a row of monthly values.

Maintain a rate over time

A rate uses its default value for every month until a different value is set. To change the rate from a given month, enter the new value in that month's cell. The rate keeps this value until the next change, which starts the next period in the series.

Multiple currencies

Where a portfolio has more than one currency enabled, each rate carries its own currency. The currency defaults to the portfolio's base currency and is set when the rate is created; it cannot be changed afterward. A currency column appears on the rate card when more than one currency is in use. Find out more about Multiple Currencies.
