What are Budget and Plans?
Plans and Budgets in Kiplot allow you to manage and track the financial details of your initiatives over time.
A Plan typically represents a saved forecast—such as a Baseline or Revised Forecast—that captures how much you expect an initiative to cost. Plans are useful for comparing different forecast versions or tracking how your expectations evolve.
A Budget defines the approved limit of spending or effort for an initiative. This is typically compared against actual and forecast values.
Kiplot enables you to save and version multiple plans and budgets on an initiative, which ensures you can easily reference past assumptions and assess how performance aligns with the original predictions.
With the Plans & Budgets feature, users, depending on their permissions, can:
Create and name new plans or budgets at any point
Reference previous budget and plan versions
How do I create a new Budget?
Navigate to the initiative’s financial profile. You might already have Forecasts, Actuals and Plans within the initiative - these will remain unaffected when creating a Budget.
Clicking on the three dots at the top right of the financial table will show you an option to create a new Budget.
Select this option.
Name your budget. You can also choose to pre-populate the budget from the existing forecast, allowing you to adjust only the bits of your existing forecast that you need to.
Once you have edited the values for your budget, hit create. Once a budget has been created, it will no longer be editable.

How Budgets and Plans Work Across Financial Datasets & Reporting
Budgets and Plans are available in all financial datasets within Kiplot:
You will be able to select which Budget or Plan to display in your reports by using the Budget Name or Plan Name filter
You will not be able to filter different versions of a Budget or Plan. Financial datasets will always only filter in the latest saved Budget or Plan
This excludes the Kiplot: Financials: Plans (last 6 months) dataset, which contains all iterations of Budgets and Plans from the past six months.
