Creating Kiplot's Service Account

Overview

Kiplot allows seamless integration with Jira, helping you track and manage your projects efficiently. This integration aligns your agile execution with Kiplot's strategic goals to enhance portfolio management.

Create a dedicated user in Jira to authenticate Kiplot's connection and enable seamless integration.

Jira Cloud

User Creation

  1. Create a new user in Jira Cloud to serve as the dedicated integration point for Kiplot. Name this user "Kiplot Service Account" for clear identification.

  2. Assign an email address to the Kiplot service account. Use an address in the format "[yourdomain]@kiplot.com" to ensure a unique and identifiable email for this integration.

  3. Grant Kiplot the necessary access by configuring the service account's permissions. Provide read/write access to the specific Jira projects that will be integrated with Kiplot.

API Token Generation

  1. Log in as the newly created Kiplot service account.

  2. Access Atlassian Account settings to generate a new API token, which Kiplot will use for secure authentication with Jira.

  3. Copy the generated API token immediately. This token is only visible at the time of creation and is required for Kiplot's integration.

  4. Securely provide the copied API token to Kiplot to complete the integration setup and enable testing.

Copy Token Immediately

You cannot view the API token again after generation. Copy it immediately to avoid needing to regenerate it.

Data Center

User Creation

  1. Log into Jira with Administrator Rights Before making any changes, ensure you're logged in as a user with administrative permissions.

  2. Access User Management

    • From the top-right corner, click on the gear icon (⚙️) which represents "Settings."

    • Choose "User management" from the drop-down menu.

  3. Create User

    • On the left-hand side, click on the "Users" option.

    • Click on the "Create User" button.

    • Fill out the form with details for the service account. It’s good practice to give the account a recognizable name, like kiplot_integration, so it's clear that it's a service account.

    • Make sure to set a strong password.

  4. Set Permissions for the Service Account:

    • It is best practice to limit the permissions of this user to only what Kiplot requires. This is typically read/write access to Projects that you wish to be in scope of the Kiplot integration.

PAT Token Generation

  1. Login as the new user you have created

  2. Select your profile picture at the top right of the screen, then choose Profile. Once you access your profile, select Personal Access Tokens in the left-hand menu.

  3. Select Create token. Give your token a new name. We recommend that you do not set the token to expire.

  4. Securely provide the copied API token to Kiplot to complete the integration setup and enable testing.
